Destination Star Trek is an officially licensed Star Trek Event ran by Media 10 and Massive Events. They have hosted the largest conventions in Europe. The Trekkie Girls have been official bloggers to all four events so far and can be seen in panels or hosting.

The first event in London 2012 boasted all five captains in attendance and was hailed the largest Star Trek Event in attendance.  It always boasts a great lineup pulling in guests that haven’t been seen in the Star Trek convention circuit for year, such as Will Wheaton in 2016.

Over the years the event has grown it’s portfolio of sets, now including The Original Series bridge, The Next Generation Bridge, a Borg Alcove and Klingon Battle Bridge chair.

Considered an ‘event’ rather than a convention it hosts panels, costume contests, parties, a museum and trading stalls.

In 2016 the event smashed it’s own Guinness World Record of ‘The Most People Dressed as a Star Trek Character.

Destination Star Trek – Weekend Away Mission!

It's Trekkie Christmas! We can't believe it's been a whole year already but it's time for our favourite Star Trek Convention (yes we know we say they are all our favourites but that's because they are all our favourites!).

We'll be beaming in Thursday evening, unfortunately we are unable to host a landing party this year due to some problems finding somewhere that would host us, but don't let that stop you beaming down early and having a good time!

Here's the highlights and what we'll be doing over the weekend!

Timetables can and do change. We are also notoriously rubbish at reading the timetable so please check all times on the DST Website and twitter account.

Friday:

It's always quieter on Fridays so this is the perfect time to buy some the DST exclusive merchandise that is at risk of selling out over the weekend. We have heard that Forbidden Planet have … Continue Reading ››

Trekkie Girls – Friday Night Live Chat – Mergers, DS9 and DST

Every Friday at 21:00 BST we get together and talk all things Star Trek! This we talk about:

🖖 The CBS/Viacom merger. Mummy and Daddy are getting married! What this could mean for the Star Trek Universe. Obviously, we have no idea so we speculate what we'd like to see as fans!

🖖 Trekkie Girls Do Deep Space Nine We have been watching S2 ep 11 - 15.

🖖 Destination Star Trek. It's about time we had another convention to look forward too. Let's start planning!

🖖 Quarks Bar - What Star Trek themed beverage have we created this week?

DST Day One – Set Up, Press Conference and Opening Ceremony

First day of Destination Star Trek and we managed to get a sneak peak of the event.

Event Set Up

Our first impression was that this had all the hallmarks of being one of the best DST's ever! The queuing lines had been much improved, the vendors included all the ones fans had been asking for including Starship Collectors, The Silver Screen Bottling Co, Anovos and the Official Star Trek Merchandise. This is a great opportunity for us Europeans to buy  and get a sneak peak of what was to come.

Fan groups had tables along with independent vendors (Including Carole's 'dealer'!).

The gaming zone included Star Trek games which was a bonus! This ranged from pinball machines, retro PC games up to the Virtual Reality Bridge Commander which we were desperate to try all weekend but grateful we didn't because off Sam's gaming addiction!

The Screening zone was far better than any previous years. It was in it's … Continue Reading ››

DST Landing Party

We like to arrive at Destination Star Trek the night before the event, this means we’re horribly hungover and tired fresh and ready to go for the opening.

We teamed up with Larry Nemecek, The Roddenberry Podcast and other co-sponsors to put on the very first Destination Star Trek Landing Party on the Thursday evening before the convention. This is a tradition at STLV and with DST hinting it may become annual, we felt it needed it's own Landing Party.

It was a huge success! Many attendees made the extra effort to attend the night before . But our primary objective was to build a sense of community and fan ownership to compliment the event.

The Landing Party was very informal, it's a quiz of 20 questions covering all series and movies. Attendees can form crews or ride solo. It all takes place in the main bar so you're free to mingle and participate as you wish.

The best … Continue Reading ››

DST – Unofficial Timetable, Highlights and Landing Party

We're counting down the hours until the longly anticipated Destination Star Trek returns to Birmingham and we have a few things planned we want to share plus some things to help you plan.

Unofficial Timetable

As Destination Star Trek continues to grow, the fans have made themselves a community around the event, more fringe and unofficial meet ups are popping up, all which enhance the fan experience at DST. Along with Liam Dillion from the Facebook Star Trek Costume Group,  we have been able to make downloadable timetable for you. The first document is everything (panels, parties, meet-ups and all photoshoots) in a linear format and is ideal if you planning lots of photoshoots.

The second timetable is just the panels, key show times and unofficial fringe events. These are not part of the official event schedule. It is handy if you aren't planning as many photoshoots.

Destination Star Trek Birmingham returns 19 – 21 October 2018

Breaking with their tradition of announcing months ahead of it's launch. Destination Star Trek is returning to Birmingham NEC 19 - 21st October 2018.... that's right 2018! This gives us almost an eternity to save up and plan!

With over a year to go, it's plenty of time to put in holiday request, threaten friends not to get married that weekend and avoid sexual relations nine months before.

Remarkably they are able to announce guests this far ahead including William Shatner (Captain Kirk), Linda Park (Hoshi Sato YESS!!), Armin Shimerman (Quark), Aron Eisenberg (Nog) and Max Grodenchik (Rom).

The difficulty event organisers face is whether to announce early with a small lineup or go fully loaded torpodeos with a large lineup so everyone knows what they are paying for, but not as long to plan.

We're glad they have decided to announce early. They have established a reputation … Continue Reading ››

#DSTE Day 3

Late night early morning. That's how we roll at DST. We are still a bit green in places from yesterday's Orion look but we head straight to the Excelsior stage where we are hosting our second Cosplay panel with the wonderful Misty Chance (drag queen and Star Trek cosplayer) and Liam Dillon, Star Trek fan and Facebook costume group.

Cosplay Panel

In this panel we highlight the connection between cosplay (grown up talk for fancy dress) and Star Trek. What we discovered is that there is a close link between the two. Cosplay originated at Star Trek conventions (contrary to popular belief that it stemmed from manga/anime and Japanese culture).

We asked each panellist and the audience why they choose to dress up as Star Trek characters and we found and wide array of answers. For Liam, it is a … Continue Reading ››

#DSTE Day 2 pt2 –  Party!

**We are live blogging, please excuse any lapses in spelling, grammar and accuracy**

Last night was the second of the Destination Star Trek Europe parties. This one was themed 'Quarks bar and casino as was the venue for the official celebration of Star Trek's 50th anniversary.

The party was held at the Hilton Metropole which was a superb venue and conveniently close to the NEC. You have the added advantage of being able to access the main bar.

The Star Trek Rat Pack performed who were brilliant and hilarious. They had edited their routine for the British audience. For example at Star Trek Las Vegas they sang "you can't get a good drink at Rio" to "you can only get a good drink in England"

Apparently Chase played before but we were in the queue at the bar (longer than Shatners autograph line!) but we hear she was incredible.

After the performance Walter Koenig cut the specially commissioned birthday cake … Continue Reading ››
