Dawn of the Federation

As you know we love our Star Trek Conventions, but we don't get to enough fan-only run events. As we knew the organisers and a lot of the groups involved in Dawn of The Federation we knew we had to give it a go. 'Dawn' as it got shortened too, was intended as a celebration of the 50 year pre-anniversary of first contact. And we swear by the name of the prophets we celebrated in a way that would make Troi and Zefram proud.

We had a three hour drive to Leicester (which is called 'the midlands' but is every bit 'up North' to us!) we arrived about midday. We had missed some of the group presentations which felt a bit like missing a mission briefing, you weren't sure whether it was a good thing or not!? Fortunately we were able to catchup by meeting each table one … Continue Reading ››

Destination Star Trek London…Are back!!!

Guess who is back!!!.....

As usual, Trekkie Girls will be all over this like Kirk to an Orion girl. Note how the hashtag is DST and not DSTL.....we're so getting a clue right now. *Can Barely Contain...Excitement!*

Star Trek The Video Game – Hands On

On Tuesday night we were very excited to have been invited to an exclusive presentation and hands-on play with Star Trek: The Video game, due to be released on 23rd April. Mere weeks before the release of Star Trek into Darkness.
The presentation was held at the Science Museum in London hosted by Paramount Pictures, Bandai Namco Games and Premier Comms was certainly the poshest Trek event we have ever been too, we felt like daughters of the Fifth House (and we have a vacancy for a Holm to carry our equipment to these events!)
The Trekkie Girls are greeted by a Trekkie Girl
The room was decked out with plenty of consoles so we could try PC, XBox and PS3. The Star Trek movie theme tune bellowed out all night, you would be forgiven for thinking you were in 10 Forward, out of hours, during the … Continue Reading ››

Another Star Trek London…possibly?

If you have been following the Enterprise D Restoration Project (of course you are) then you have probably already noticed this little gem in their facebook status today:
Note: Possibly ST London!? This could be a mistake or they might have let the Tribbles out the hatch.
By Data's fully functioning phaser we hope this is a clue that the convention gods founders are plotting us a treat with a second Star Trek London. And if you're uming and ahhing about whether it will happen, remember that in the Trek universe, even numbers are always better.
Our friends at Trek Mate started this petition to bring back Destination Star Trek London, please sign if you want to bring it back.

First Contact Celebrations

What will you be doing to celebrate? We will be at the Leicester Space Centre at: Dawn of The Federation.
All over the world fans are gathering to celebrate the countdown to the moment Zefram Cochrane makes First Contact and thrusts mankind into a new era of peace.
Whilst we look forward to the uniting of fans, the shared optimism of space travel and the general geekness of this event, we are really looking forward to a fun, lighthearted atmosphere. This is a great chance to get costumed up but this ain't no Vicars and Tarts party, more like Vulcans and Warp field specialists knocking back tequila's like Troi.
The USS Fortitide are organising this event and have a good deal of experience hosting events having hosted two Trekology conventions with a third planned for July this year. We spoke to Dawn Of The Federation organiser Wil Ross who told us how the idea … Continue Reading ››

Star Trek Magazine – DSTL report

We couldn't feel more honoured if we we won a bloodwine drinking competition against a Dahar master, but here we are in The Official Star Trek Magazine.
Along side our mates from Trek Mate, this edition provides an indepth account of Destination Star Trek London and part of that included speaking to the 'official bloggers' - that's us! The article also provides a good look at the 'behind the scenes' of the event. This makes facinating reading whether or not you attended. It was a special privilege to speak to Star Trek Magazine's editor Christopher Cooper, as we have been reading the magazine since its inception. Whilst our class mates at school were reading copies of Sugar and J-17, we were glued to our Star Trek Mag and preferred interviews with … Continue Reading ››

Inside Out – The future of transport

If you happened to be watching Inside Out on BBC One on Monday you might have spotted us. If you were at DSTL, you might even spot yourself!
The BBC were filming an episode of Inside Out, investigating whether Britain has fallen out of love with the car. If we had our own Starships, we're sure we would have ditched the cars long ago!
When we did our cheeky bridge segment at DSTL we had got in the way of the BBC, who were very polite about it and asked if we'd be in their programme. You can view the clip through iPlayer using this link.
Yes that is the back of Sam's head interviewing William Shatner 😉
With these 8 seconds of fame we promise not to go all Diva. Now someone fetch … Continue Reading ››

DSTL: All Good Things

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99AMgOtwYms&w=320&h=266]

Q once said 'All good things must come to an end'. Sat here at Trekkie Girls HQ (a 1990's identi-kit house with mock tudor cladding) we feel far removed from our trekkie bubble and Star Trek themed sets/props that we have been living in this weekend (ok MDF, glass buttons and glue).
We had a blast sharing our experience with you and interacting with the fans. We got to play amongst some of the big boys such as StarTrek.com Star Trek Magazine and Syfy who were also reporting the event and doing a sterling professional job doing so. It felt like we were cadets racing our type 15 shuttlepod alongside the prometheus. So we are grateful to everyone who checked our feed.
Over the next few days we'll be updating our site with little joys that we remember from the weekend but in the meantime we … Continue Reading ››

Bonjour Mon Capitaine

It doesn't matter how many times we see Patrick Stewart, he always delivers something fresh, new and interesting. This is true of the questions fans ask him, most were orientated towards his overall career and interests rather than focusing on just his time in Star Trek.
When asked about his opinion on a possible TNG Prequel he responded that it simply couldn't work because of Data, he was never a boy!
But it's only impossible until its not eh?
Patrick spoke about the comparison between working on Shakespearian plays and Star Trek and they were remarkably similar, strange language, funny costumes with tights, a stage with side exits and a throne. We hasten to add randy men with beards.
Marc Alaimo said something similar in one of … Continue Reading ››

World Records and TNG Party

 [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgYyGwRJv4k&w=320&h=266]
Last Night the Cast of DS9 and Enterprise very kindly threw TNG an anniversary party. Avery Brooks sang and played the piano. There were a lot more people attending than on Friday nights Klingon Monster Ball and much more of a celebratory feel. Audiences sat mesmerised at his music. We're not entirely sure what genre it falls under but we like it.
We attribute a big part of the celebratory atmosphere down to the fans who were in a massive high from breaking the world record attempt of most Star Trek characters in one place. Not only that, but we are also the largest Trek event in history EVER! Ha!
Everyone loved the foam Spock hands but we … Continue Reading ››
