Happy Anniversary Voyager!

This week when I discovered it was Voyagers 20 year anniversary, my first thought was that there had been a glitch in the space time continuum. Surely the 90's were only a decade ago? image The nostalgia attributed to Voyagers premiere isn't just confined to my fandom but also my friendship with Carole. It was the first Trek series we were able to watch together and our friendship formed around it (at the expense of making other friends, as you can imagine!). Carole had got to watch a preview of Caretaker, Voyagers maiden voyage, at the Star Trek Convention in The Royal Albert Hall. She came to school bursting to tell me how great this new show was and best of all, there was a woman captain. About time! We were initially skeptical about the idea of the Marquis onboard, was Starfleet too boring? Is this how they were going to … Continue Reading ››

New Home

Like many Starships, sometimes you can get away with a refit (or new carpet on the bridge) and other times you need a whole new ship that's more fit for purpose. That's what we have decided to do. 2014 has been a big year for us with lots of change but we're ready to get our blogging mojo back on. So here we are with a new site, and a contributing Trekkie In Training. Hope you enjoy!

So, What’s Next for The Original TiT?

What can I say? The response I’ve had to these “guest blog” posts has been absolutely amazing – you guys are fantastic!! But I’ve actually really enjoyed doing them! In fact, it’s kind of taken over my life a little bit?! (I may need to take a couple of days off to spend some time with my boyfriend, think he’s feeling a little neglected!) It’s taken me right back to my time at University – cramming to finish those 5000 word essays before a deadline (it’s a good stress – honest!). Part of me doesn’t want it to end? But I can’t hog the Trekkie Girls limelight forever. So, what IS next for The Original TiT?!
Perhaps it’s time for me to take command of my own starship? Start my own blog…
SCARY!! What will I talk about? What if nobody comes to pay me a visit? Guess I’ll just … Continue Reading ››

My First Star Trek Convention: What Am I Taking Away From DST3?

Star Trek is a drug and I’m hooked. That is all.
JUST KIDDING!!! Like you could shut me up there?!
But seriously, as a complete convention newbie, as I said before, I had no idea what to expect from DST3. Trekkie Girls Sam and Carole, had always seemed to have a lot of fun, but I felt that perhaps you had to be a “hardcore Trekkie” to reap the full benefit from one of these things? Also, I guess I feared that my lack of Trek knowledge would make me stick out like a sore thumb?! Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong!
I think Bruce Greenwood summed it up perfectly. It was his first convention too, and at the opening ceremony, as he spoke to Jonathan Ross, he seemed honestly taken aback by how much the show meant to the fans and was surprised at how much it … Continue Reading ››

My First Star Trek Convention: Day Three of DST3

So, beating the previous night, Carole and I were up at 8 o’clock Sunday morning, having managed a mere 3 hours sleep! (Again, Trekkie Girl Teressa had partied a little too hard – think we should throw her in the brig personally?!). Having packed up our cases and checked out of the hotel, we staggered over to the ExCel just in time to catch Karl Urban’s second talk (yes, I attended both his talks!). Despite my rather delicate state, I managed to raise my hand to ask a question that had been bothering me since the previous day – what had Daniel Stewart done to Karl Urban exactly, at the beginning of the convention, to make him think that a restraining order would have been taken out on him? I thought this was a good question, but whatever it was must have been really bad, because Karl denied all knowledge! I think he knew, … Continue Reading ››

My First Star Trek Convention: Day Two of DST3

After only 5 hours sleep, I woke to the excitement that both Jonathan Ross and Jeri Ryan, yes THE Jeri Ryan(!!) had replied to my tweets! Carole and I apprehensively made our way over to make-up (that naughty Trekkie Girl Teressa had had too much Tranya at the Risa party!), where we were transformed in to Orion Slave Girls for the day! Thank you to the amazing Karen Ward and her team for ‘greening us up’ – great job ladies!
When our makeover was complete we rushed along to the Enterprise A stage where our job was to welcome people into the Guinness world record attempt. Sadly we didn’t break our own world record for the ‘largest gathering of people dressed as Star Trek characters’, but we … Continue Reading ››

My First Star Trek Convention: Day One of DST3

When we arrived at the ExCel and picked up our passes, we were allowed to enter the arena before the general public, to attend the Press Call. I was quite taken aback by the sheer magnitude of the event and the variety of exhibits on show. I don’t know what I had been expecting, but I was truly in awe, especially when I thought how many Trekkies would file through it over the next three days.
Jordan Hoffman did an amazing job of introducing the guests at the Press Call and I had my first real ‘TiT’ moment when for the life of me, I couldn’t recognise this one guy in glasses, only to gasp when he spoke: “IT’S NELIX!?”
Off we went to check out the official ‘Bloggers Lounge’, where we met the lovely Simon, Phil and Jamie from The Engage Podcast, and the uber friendly Mike … Continue Reading ››

My First Star Trek Convention: A Brief Introduction to The Original TiT

As I stood at the bottom of the steps, mic in my uncontrollably shaking hand, I assured myself that even if they did throw tomatoes, I was in a red dress, so at least the stains wouldn’t show. In a flash it was time to ascend those steps, on to the waiting stage and face my fears. At least I wasn’t alone, I had my fellow Trekkie Girls Carole and Teressa with me – if this ship was going down, we were sure as hell going down together! This was my first experience of a Star Trek convention and I can hand-on-heart say, I absolutely LOVED every single minute of it!!
As it was, there was a rather modest audience for our cadet level quiz (undoubtedly thanks to the lovely introduction from Jordan Hoffman!), which seemed to be graciously accepted and enjoyed by all. Once my feet hit that stage, my nerves … Continue Reading ››

DST3 day 3

So Day 3 the final frontier

So the day after the night before - the night before being a Our Man Bashir inspired party, everyone was dressed in their trekkie finest and enjoying the music of both James Darren and Tim Russ who put on stellar shows. It again was a messy night continuing into the wee hours, thank you to Larry Nemecek who put up with our company for far too much of the evening.

Strange photo bomb

Sunday was about three people:

First the cutest, this is trekkie girl Sammy' s little baby bundle he so cute.

Look at this little Hughie. Could just eat him up. Plus he gets all the babes
