The Trekkie Girls alongside the Visionary Trek podcast, interview Robert Duncan McNeill and Manu Intiraymi at the 21st SF Ball - The Grand Harbour Hotel Southampton. 7th February 2014. As usual they drift off topic!
On Saturday we packed up ready for the SF Ball in it's new home at the Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton. Carole had to work so I took Sarah, our Trekkie In Training, along.
Because of new baby, we couldn't stay along as we wanted (like, all weekend!) so this review isn't as thorough as we'd like however we wanted to make an effort and see what we could of the Ball after hearing so much praise.
We have been to all sorts of conventions, some are massive signing events, some are like a small gathering of friends, others are like drunken nights at Quarks. From what we saw of the SF Ball, it is a mixture of everything.
The venue worked very well. If we're completely honest, the previous venue had put us off on previous years. We love hotel events, they foster a sense of community. It's like being on a school trip with … Continue Reading ››

The Trekkie Girls are back for 2015 with their Trekkie In Training (TiT) Sarah. In this episode they discuss how Sarah got on watching S1 of The Next Generation
This year we are very excited to make our first trip to the famous SF Ball 6th - 8th Feb. We have heard so many exciting things about this event, from the cabaret, to the interaction with guests, not to mention those con dances! It's a travesty on our part that we haven't made until now.
Alas, with a little one and work commitments we are only able to attend for the Saturday but we can't wait to soak up that Trek Atmosphere. Plus, hailing from Portsmouth, it's now in our back yard, Southampton. The Shelbyville to our Springfield.
We had the privilege to talk to SFB events organiser B who kindly took the time to talk to us. Her passion and enthusiasm for the event is simply infectious. We could tell immediately that this is an event created with love.
Being Trekkies, we were keen to hear how this … Continue Reading ››
This week when I discovered it was Voyagers 20 year anniversary, my first thought was that there had been a glitch in the space time continuum. Surely the 90's were only a decade ago?
The nostalgia attributed to Voyagers premiere isn't just confined to my fandom but also my friendship with Carole. It was the first Trek series we were able to watch together and our friendship formed around it (at the expense of making other friends, as you can imagine!).
Carole had got to watch a preview of Caretaker, Voyagers maiden voyage, at the Star Trek Convention in The Royal Albert Hall. She came to school bursting to tell me how great this new show was and best of all, there was a woman captain. About time!
We were initially skeptical about the idea of the Marquis onboard, was Starfleet too boring? Is this how they were going to … Continue Reading ››
Happy New Year everyone!
We keep meaning to parody things but there are so many talented and faster jokesters out there, we'll share their good work instead. Checkout this Borg Bass (no Tribbles):

Like many Starships, sometimes you can get away with a refit (or new carpet on the bridge) and other times you need a whole new ship that's more fit for purpose.
That's what we have decided to do. 2014 has been a big year for us with lots of change but we're ready to get our blogging mojo back on. So here we are with a new site, and a contributing Trekkie In Training. Hope you enjoy!
Where to even start. Ok, for us, we like the massive TNG presence all bar Mon Capitaine and Wheaton. We will have you Will Wheaton...one day! These guys know how to bring fun to a convention, if you weren't able to get to DSTG/Frankfurt, then you are in for a treat. If you did see them, you know you want to see them again!
Then we got some faces we haven't seen at any DST events or even in the UK before! Jeri Ryan is a rare treasure to this island but we are super excited to see James Darren … Continue Reading ››
Every now and then a YouTube video flies around our Trek circles that stops and makes us think. We have lived fortunate lives yet we can still empathise with the healing power and strength that can be drawn from Star Trek.
This is a video of fan Isaac 'Feet' Jensen, an Army Combat Medic who lost his legs and use of one hand in a tour of Iraq, addressing and thanking the crew of The Next Generation for helping him get through his PTSD. It is bound to leave you emotionally compromised as it did the whole cast and the audience of Salt Lake City Comic Con.
We think this is what makes the Star Trek community great, that we have the opportunity to meet our on-screen heroes and thank them, and in return the crew of the … Continue Reading ››
The big DST is heading home to London for it's third event! *Data Fist Pump*
There were a few slips along the way which added to the excitement and build up of the announcement. Tim Russ apparently mentioned in a tweet that he would be in London 3 - 5th October and took it down at warp speed. (We can imagine Janeway giving him the glare of doom for doing that).
Then Marina said tweeted that she would be at a DST in October this year whilst replying to a question (but she didn't remove it because she is fearless!).
The next clue was in an email from DST stating that the announcement would be exclusive on Facebook and Twitter however on some email platforms, the text under the embedded … Continue Reading ››
24th Century Socialites. 21st Century high functioning nerds. We go to Star Trek Conventions and talk about Star Trek a lot.
