Having worked in politics, this is the first year in my adult voting life that I won't be participating in a general election. (campaigning that is, I'm going to vote of course!)
Star Trek very much influenced my decision to go in to politics so for this blog post I'd like to look at some of the Trek characters that fit in to some of the real life politician personality types I have encountered.
This is just for fun. But I'd love to hear your thoughts and your suggestions.
The Single Issue GuyChief O'Brien would be the type of politician who is always campaigning tirelessly for the same thing. He has a singular focus, he went in to politics to sort out transporter technology regulation, the Cardassian encroachment of Federation territories or the rights of non-comm officers. The chamber could be talking about the furtherest thing from his pet subject, but he'll find a … Continue Reading ››
TrekMovie are reporting that the title for the third Star Trek reboot movie is titled 'Beyond':
TrekMovie.com has it on good authority that Star Trek Beyond is being used for the title of the new Trek film. What we do know is that the name has been registered with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), a step that typically signifies a title has been settled on for an upcoming movie. It is possible, given Bad Robot’s history of secrecy and pretense, that this is merely a decoy name registered to stir up conjecture amongst the media and fans. But, the official title will need to be registered with the MPAA before the film’s release, and given the timeline, it seems likely that such a decision would be made now.

This image of Astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti wearing a Starfleet uniform whilst welcoming the Dragon vehicle to the International Space Station, seems to be available on every hailing frequency we open. And with good reason, it's probably the greatest picture from space ever taken! First picture of the Earth taken from space? Meh! Rocking the Janeway look whilst orbiting the planet - legendary! With a growing list of Astronauts citing Star Trek as their inspiration, it demonstrates what a powerful influence the utopian view of Trek has had on generations. Almost 50 years in to its reign and we are at last moving well past the 'Trekkie in the basement' image and seeing scientists, world leaders, activists and philanthropists, all crediting Star Trek as their inspiration
What we love most about this is that Samantha must have insisted this got packed for her trip. Imagine what items you have to pack; 7 pairs … Continue Reading ››

We Spoke to the organiser of FCD, Will Ross who gave us … Continue Reading ››
Rest In Peace Leonard Nimoy.
I'm sure in the next few days more words will come. But for now we are finding great comfort watching the love and support for this great man pour through our social media streams. The fact that the outpouring extends well beyond the Trek family shows what a true legend he was. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and everyone's lives he touched.
For now we "Remember".

The Trekkie Girls alongside the Visionary Trek podcast, interview Robert Duncan McNeill and Manu Intiraymi at the 21st SF Ball - The Grand Harbour Hotel Southampton. 7th February 2014. As usual they drift off topic!
On Saturday we packed up ready for the SF Ball in it's new home at the Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton. Carole had to work so I took Sarah, our Trekkie In Training, along.
Because of new baby, we couldn't stay along as we wanted (like, all weekend!) so this review isn't as thorough as we'd like however we wanted to make an effort and see what we could of the Ball after hearing so much praise.
We have been to all sorts of conventions, some are massive signing events, some are like a small gathering of friends, others are like drunken nights at Quarks. From what we saw of the SF Ball, it is a mixture of everything.
The venue worked very well. If we're completely honest, the previous venue had put us off on previous years. We love hotel events, they foster a sense of community. It's like being on a school trip with … Continue Reading ››
