(A couple of) people suggested I “blog” about my TNG Season 1 experience. So, here are the musings of a mere novice TiT on what was undeniably a rollercoaster ride of an introduction to Star Trek…
The first thing that struck me was how dated it seemed, I just didn’t realise it was made in 1987, almost 30 years ago! It’s nearly as old as me 😉 So right from the start I knew I had to make allowances for things such as the fashion, style and SFX (and something I had to continuously remind myself of throughout!). I actually really liked the totally 80s soundtrack – I could tell instantly what sort of episode was going to follow – it’s a shame the music guy later got the sack (or so I’m told?).
Kicking off a new show with an episode like Encounter at Farpoint was somewhat of a … Continue Reading ››
This year we are very excited to make our first trip to the famous SF Ball 6th - 8th Feb. We have heard so many exciting things about this event, from the cabaret, to the interaction with guests, not to mention those con dances! It's a travesty on our part that we haven't made until now.
Alas, with a little one and work commitments we are only able to attend for the Saturday but we can't wait to soak up that Trek Atmosphere. Plus, hailing from Portsmouth, it's now in our back yard, Southampton. The Shelbyville to our Springfield.
We had the privilege to talk to SFB events organiser B who kindly took the time to talk to us. Her passion and enthusiasm for the event is simply infectious. We could tell immediately that this is an event created with love.
Being Trekkies, we were keen to hear how this … Continue Reading ››
You may recall my trektastic pregnancy announcement with the TNG crew at DSTG last February. Well it's a long overdue introduction but we named our little one Hugh. Although it was very nearly Jean-Luc, right down to a heated discussion in the registars office. Who, by the way, was a Trekkie herself and was very keen on the name.
Born September 15th 2014 by C-Section - how envious I am of Samantha Wildmans transporter delivery or indeed, Borg maturation chambers!
We have been overwhelmed by the kindness of others who have helped give Hugh a proper headstart in fandom. His Starfleet top pictured above was lovingly hand made by a family friend Jane and his Jean-Luc teddy knitted by his Granny.
Huey was born two weeks before DST3, but that didn't stop him attending his first ever Star Trek … Continue Reading ››
This week when I discovered it was Voyagers 20 year anniversary, my first thought was that there had been a glitch in the space time continuum. Surely the 90's were only a decade ago?
The nostalgia attributed to Voyagers premiere isn't just confined to my fandom but also my friendship with Carole. It was the first Trek series we were able to watch together and our friendship formed around it (at the expense of making other friends, as you can imagine!).
Carole had got to watch a preview of Caretaker, Voyagers maiden voyage, at the Star Trek Convention in The Royal Albert Hall. She came to school bursting to tell me how great this new show was and best of all, there was a woman captain. About time!
We were initially skeptical about the idea of the Marquis onboard, was Starfleet too boring? Is this how they were going to … Continue Reading ››
Happy New Year everyone!
We keep meaning to parody things but there are so many talented and faster jokesters out there, we'll share their good work instead. Checkout this Borg Bass (no Tribbles):

Like many Starships, sometimes you can get away with a refit (or new carpet on the bridge) and other times you need a whole new ship that's more fit for purpose.
That's what we have decided to do. 2014 has been a big year for us with lots of change but we're ready to get our blogging mojo back on. So here we are with a new site, and a contributing Trekkie In Training. Hope you enjoy!
What can I say? The response I’ve had to these “guest blog” posts has been absolutely amazing – you guys are fantastic!! But I’ve actually really enjoyed doing them! In fact, it’s kind of taken over my life a little bit?! (I may need to take a couple of days off to spend some time with my boyfriend, think he’s feeling a little neglected!) It’s taken me right back to my time at University – cramming to finish those 5000 word essays before a deadline (it’s a good stress – honest!). Part of me doesn’t want it to end? But I can’t hog the Trekkie Girls limelight forever.
So, what IS next for The Original TiT?!
Perhaps it’s time for me to take command of my own starship? Start my own blog…
SCARY!! What will I talk about? What if nobody comes to pay me a visit? Guess I’ll just … Continue Reading ››
But seriously, as a complete convention newbie, as I said before, I had no idea what to expect from DST3. Trekkie Girls Sam and Carole, had always seemed to have a lot of fun, but I felt that perhaps you had to be a “hardcore Trekkie” to reap the full benefit from one of these things? Also, I guess I feared that my lack of Trek knowledge would make me stick out like a sore thumb?! Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong!
I think Bruce Greenwood summed it up perfectly. It was his first convention too, and at the opening ceremony, as he spoke to Jonathan Ross, he seemed honestly taken aback by how much the show meant to the fans and was surprised at how much it … Continue Reading ››
So, beating the previous night, Carole and I were up at 8 o’clock Sunday morning, having managed a mere 3 hours sleep! (Again, Trekkie Girl Teressa had partied a little too hard – think we should throw her in the brig personally?!). Having packed up our cases and checked out of the hotel, we staggered over to the ExCel just in time to catch Karl Urban’s second talk (yes, I attended both his talks!). Despite my rather delicate state, I managed to raise my hand to ask a question that had been bothering me since the previous day – what had Daniel Stewart done to Karl Urban exactly, at the beginning of the convention, to make him think that a restraining order would have been taken out on him? I thought this was a good question, but whatever it was must have been really bad, because Karl denied all knowledge! I think he knew, … Continue Reading ››
After only 5 hours sleep, I woke to the excitement that both Jonathan Ross and Jeri Ryan, yes THE Jeri Ryan(!!) had replied to my tweets! Carole and I apprehensively made our way over to make-up (that naughty Trekkie Girl Teressa had had too much Tranya at the Risa party!), where we were transformed in to Orion Slave Girls for the day! Thank you to the amazing Karen Ward and her team for ‘greening us up’ – great job ladies!
When our makeover was complete we rushed along to the Enterprise A stage where our job was to welcome people into the Guinness world record attempt. Sadly we didn’t break our own world record for the ‘largest gathering of people dressed as Star Trek characters’, but we … Continue Reading ››
24th Century Socialites. 21st Century high functioning nerds. We go to Star Trek Conventions and talk about Star Trek a lot.
