Sci-Fi Ball 25 – 8th – 10th February Southampton

Our next away mission is days away. It's one of our favourites, it's the Sci-Fi Ball! Now in it's 25th year it is marking this anniversary with a weekend of special events including the UK premiere of the film Hashtag, produced by Los Angeles-based Runic Films and Little Empire Productions, will screen at the 25th Sci-Fi Ball held at the Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton.

This year has another amazing guest lineup. For us Trekkies we have the return of Robert Duncan McNeill (Tom Paris, ST Voyager). Other guests include Sean Pertwee, Andrew Lee Potts, Gigi Edgley, Dino Fetscher, Lucy Carless and Terry Malloy .

The Ball is a unique convention in the UK, it's by no means small. It takes over an entire hotel however it is intimate and personal. Everyone feels like a friend. There is much … Continue Reading ››

Friday Night Live Star Trek Chat

You all kept asking so we have delivered. Every Friday night at 21:00 UTC during Season 2 of Star Trek Discovery we will host a Friday night livestream chat to share our reaction to the episode, speculate what is happening all whilst indulging in Star Trek themed cocktails!

To make it a bit different from all the rest we're trying to keep it around 30 - 45 mins long and to include the following segments:

=^= Trek themed Cocktails
=^= Trek-Bounding ideas (normal attire trekified)
=^= What The Spock!?
=^= Who's Meme is that anyway?
=^=Disco Star of the week.

Our first livestream was a lot of fun as we discussed Angels, red signals and how to make Jippers (minus a beach). We currently stream to Facebook Live but hoping to stream to our Continue Reading ››

DST Day One – Set Up, Press Conference and Opening Ceremony

First day of Destination Star Trek and we managed to get a sneak peak of the event.

https://twitter.com/TrekkieGirls/status/1053233950888386560

Event Set Up

Our first impression was that this had all the hallmarks of being one of the best DST's ever! The queuing lines had been much improved, the vendors included all the ones fans had been asking for including Starship Collectors, The Silver Screen Bottling Co, Anovos and the Official Star Trek Merchandise. This is a great opportunity for us Europeans to buy  and get a sneak peak of what was to come.

Fan groups had tables along with independent vendors (Including Carole's 'dealer'!).

The gaming zone included Star Trek games which was a bonus! This ranged from pinball machines, retro PC games up to the Virtual Reality Bridge Commander which we were desperate to try all weekend but grateful we didn't because off Sam's gaming addiction!

The Screening zone was far better than any previous years. It was in it's … Continue Reading ››

DST Landing Party

We like to arrive at Destination Star Trek the night before the event, this means we’re horribly hungover and tired fresh and ready to go for the opening.

We teamed up with Larry Nemecek, The Roddenberry Podcast and other co-sponsors to put on the very first Destination Star Trek Landing Party on the Thursday evening before the convention. This is a tradition at STLV and with DST hinting it may become annual, we felt it needed it's own Landing Party.

It was a huge success! Many attendees made the extra effort to attend the night before . But our primary objective was to build a sense of community and fan ownership to compliment the event.

The Landing Party was very informal, it's a quiz of 20 questions covering all series and movies. Attendees can form crews or ride solo. It all takes place in the main bar so you're free to mingle and participate as you wish.

The best … Continue Reading ››

DST – Unofficial Timetable, Highlights and Landing Party

We're counting down the hours until the longly anticipated Destination Star Trek returns to Birmingham and we have a few things planned we want to share plus some things to help you plan.

Unofficial Timetable

As Destination Star Trek continues to grow, the fans have made themselves a community around the event, more fringe and unofficial meet ups are popping up, all which enhance the fan experience at DST. Along with Liam Dillion from the Facebook Star Trek Costume Group,  we have been able to make downloadable timetable for you. The first document is everything (panels, parties, meet-ups and all photoshoots) in a linear format and is ideal if you planning lots of photoshoots.

The second timetable is just the panels, key show times and unofficial fringe events. These are not part of the official event schedule. It is handy if you aren't planning as many photoshoots.

Picard Series – Why it needs Q

As Rain Robinson declared "you can't stop a girl speculating!" And that's what we intend to do with the Untitled Picard Series. With our usual disclaimer that we promise not to go all Ferengi/EMH should there be any similarity to what's actually produced. Which isn't a risk because Star Trek writers are 1000 times more talented and creative.

Remember, the Trekkie Girls know nothing. We are not a news site, we are just plain and simple bloggers.  In our last vBlog I (Sam) speculated what I'd like to see. In short:

  • The aftermath of the Dominion war left some paranoid bad Admirals in Starfleet.
  • Section 31 gained too much power granted to them by the admiralty when it was convenient during  war time.
  • The destruction of Romulas has created a refugee class in the galaxy.
  • A minority of Romulans have resorted to terrorism (Radicalised by Nero's tribe) but most want the … Continue Reading ››

Loving L’Rell with the Disco Trek Podcast

Disco Trek - L'Rell - Listen Now

I recently had the privilege and honour to appear on the Disco Trek Podcast. Part of the Tricorder Transmissions network which delivers thought provoking discussions on a variety of Star Trek topics.

The two hosts Heather Barker (@LLAPawsper) and Jeff Hulit (@WarpFactorJeff) have been providing a review of each Star Trek Discovery episode. Whilst the series is on Hiatus, they are deep diving into the characters.

When the opportunity to deep dive on the topic of L'Rell's character, I put in a request to participate and was fortunate enough to appear along with Jeff, Heather and Anika (@manicpixiedane) who beautifully coined the term Social Justice Klingon Warrior Princess!

Before I appeared on the show I pondered which way to approach the discussion and that led me to question why I am so intrigued by L'Rell? I think … Continue Reading ››

Trekkie Girls ep – Picard, DCS S2 and Convention Goals

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lz1zDXFeonU&]

We discuss the 'Picard announcement' and what we hope to see with a disclaimer that WE TOTALLY WON'T LAWYER UP IF THIS HAPPENS!
We talk about Season two of Star Trek Discovery and our Trek Goals - what we are doing to survive from one Star Trek Convention to the next.
We bought our T-Shirts from Chase Masterson to support the Pop Culture Hero Coalition. A non profit organisation which works to educate and support children, teens and adults to overcome bullying and social injustice, and to transform their struggles into strengths, using stories and characters from pop culture TV, film, and comics.

24th Century Socialites. 21st Century high functioning nerds. We go to Star Trek Conventions and talk about Star Trek a lot.
