Star Trek 13: Beyond

TrekMovie are reporting that the title for the third Star Trek reboot movie is titled 'Beyond':
TrekMovie.com has it on good authority that Star Trek Beyond is being used for the title of the new Trek film. What we do know is that the name has been registered with the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), a step that typically signifies a title has been settled on for an upcoming movie. It is possible, given Bad Robot’s history of secrecy and pretense, that this is merely a decoy name registered to stir up conjecture amongst the media and fans. But, the official title will need to be registered with the MPAA before the film’s release, and given the timeline, it seems likely that such a decision would be made now.

Samantha Cristoforetti, ultimate fan girl!

This image of Astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti wearing a Starfleet uniform whilst welcoming the Dragon vehicle to the International Space Station, seems to be available on every hailing frequency we open. And with good reason, it's probably the greatest picture from space ever taken!  First picture of the Earth taken from space? Meh! Rocking the Janeway look whilst orbiting the planet - legendary! With a growing list of Astronauts citing Star Trek as their inspiration, it demonstrates what a powerful influence the utopian view of Trek has had on generations. Almost 50 years in to its reign and we are at last moving well past the 'Trekkie in the basement' image and seeing scientists, world leaders, activists and philanthropists, all crediting Star Trek as their inspiration What we love most about this is that Samantha must have insisted this got packed for her trip. Imagine what items you have to pack; 7 pairs … Continue Reading ››

Leonard Nimoy – Remember

trekxihd2847 Rest In Peace Leonard Nimoy. I'm sure in the next few days more words will come. But for now we are finding great comfort watching the love and support for this great man pour through our social media streams. The fact that the outpouring extends well beyond the Trek family shows what a true legend he was. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and everyone's lives he touched. For now we "Remember". "He's really not dead. As long as we remember him." - McCoy LLAP

SF Ball coming to Southampton

This year we are very excited to make our first trip to the famous SF Ball 6th - 8th Feb. We have heard so many exciting things about this event, from the cabaret, to the interaction with guests, not to mention those con dances! It's a travesty on our part that we haven't made until now. Ball21Flier Alas, with a little one and work commitments we are only able to attend for the Saturday but we can't wait to soak up that Trek Atmosphere. Plus, hailing from Portsmouth, it's now in our back yard, Southampton. The Shelbyville to our Springfield. We had the privilege to talk to SFB events organiser B who kindly took the time to talk to us. Her passion and enthusiasm for the event is simply infectious. We could tell immediately that this is an event created with love. Being Trekkies, we were keen to hear how this … Continue Reading ››

We are Hugh

You may recall my trektastic pregnancy announcement with the TNG crew at DSTG last February. Well it's a long overdue introduction but we named our little one Hugh. Although it was very nearly Jean-Luc, right down to a heated discussion in the registars office. Who, by the way, was a Trekkie herself and was very keen on the name. IMG_0462_2 Born September 15th 2014 by C-Section - how envious I am of Samantha Wildmans transporter delivery or indeed, Borg maturation chambers! We have been overwhelmed by the kindness of others who have helped give Hugh a proper headstart in fandom. His Starfleet top pictured above was lovingly hand made by a family friend Jane and his Jean-Luc teddy knitted by his Granny. IMG_0515 Huey was born two weeks before DST3, but that didn't stop him attending his first ever Star Trek … Continue Reading ››

Happy Anniversary Voyager!

This week when I discovered it was Voyagers 20 year anniversary, my first thought was that there had been a glitch in the space time continuum. Surely the 90's were only a decade ago? image The nostalgia attributed to Voyagers premiere isn't just confined to my fandom but also my friendship with Carole. It was the first Trek series we were able to watch together and our friendship formed around it (at the expense of making other friends, as you can imagine!). Carole had got to watch a preview of Caretaker, Voyagers maiden voyage, at the Star Trek Convention in The Royal Albert Hall. She came to school bursting to tell me how great this new show was and best of all, there was a woman captain. About time! We were initially skeptical about the idea of the Marquis onboard, was Starfleet too boring? Is this how they were going to … Continue Reading ››

New Home

Like many Starships, sometimes you can get away with a refit (or new carpet on the bridge) and other times you need a whole new ship that's more fit for purpose. That's what we have decided to do. 2014 has been a big year for us with lots of change but we're ready to get our blogging mojo back on. So here we are with a new site, and a contributing Trekkie In Training. Hope you enjoy!

Healing Power of Trek

Every now and then a YouTube video flies around our Trek circles that stops and makes us think. We have lived fortunate lives yet we can still empathise with the healing power and strength that can be drawn from Star Trek.

This is a video of fan Isaac 'Feet' Jensen, an Army Combat Medic who lost his legs and use of one hand in a tour of Iraq, addressing and thanking the crew of The Next Generation for helping him get through his PTSD. It is bound to leave you emotionally compromised as it did the whole cast and the audience of Salt Lake City Comic Con.
We think this is what makes the Star Trek community great, that we have the opportunity to meet our on-screen heroes and thank them, and in return the crew of the … Continue Reading ››
