The Red Shirt Diaries Season 2 – A chat with Ashley

After binge watching S1 of The Red Shirt Diaries (thanks for joining us on our tweet-along!) we got in touch with Ashley (aka Ensign Williams) for a chat before the launch of Season 2. Season 2 launched last week with the Menagarie pt 1 & 2 now available and it continues it's fitting tribute to TOS with its wit, style and improved fancy visual effects! How did you get started with RSD? I had had the idea for THE RED SHIRT DIARIES right after I graduated from university with the intent of building a show around a rewatch of TOS. I'd never seen TOS in order and blogs are such a popular medium that it seemed a natural match. When I met Jason Inman I told him about the idea and he was able to bring the skills and understanding of youtube to THE RED SHIRT DIARIES and start it into production. (for those who don't … Continue Reading ››

The Original TiT’s Season 3 TNG Review: Pt 1

Another Season down and I still haven’t learned my lesson! Instead of mentally trying to build a Season review in my head as I watch, and maybe even sensibly jotting a couple of notes down along the way, I still find myself having done neither of these things, and once again face the challenge of trying to remember what’s happened throughout the whole of Season 3! #badTiT I thought I’d share my thought process with you, as it struck me as being quite funny? Well, you can tell I’m a die-hard Friends fan anyway?! This is how it began…

Episodes

  1. Evolution – Wesley’s nanites get loose – they communicate through Data
  2. The Ensigns of Command – Data takes control on-planet
  3. The Survivors – great “on planet” episode
  4. Who Watches the Watchers – the one where Troi and Riker are disguised as aliens that look a bit like Vulcan/Romulans?!
  5. The Bonding – the one with the creepy little boy – good Worf … Continue Reading ››

Portal 47 Mission Briefing

If you follow Larry Nemecek's Trekland Blog (and if you don't, you can't sit with us!) you would have heard about this mysterious Portal 47. We've been curious about this like a lowly officer is curious about the Omega directive, but our wait is over. On Wednesday 9th September at 19.00 Pacific Time, 22.00 Eastern Time or 03.00 on Thursday in the UK, Mr Trekland himself will reveal all! And you can hear for yourself via a teleconference (let's call it subspace!) or listen online. You can sign up for yourself to get information direct from the source. Larry informs us that he is hoping to add some European friendly times in the future so we don't miss out (although dealing with us sleepy/drunk Brits is so much more fun!). Larry Nemecek is immensely popular at conventions, podcasts and all over the Trek Community for his unique insider knowledge into the franchise. … Continue Reading ››

UK Star Trek anniversary event in London 2016?

If you watched our latest episode, we revealed some clues that hint that a big London based Star Trek anniversary is heading our way in 2016. Here's where we found our clues.

The major spoiler was from Kate Mulgrew in this interview:

A 50 year celebration is planned for London in 2016, she tells us, with all five captains in attendance..

In addition, Tim Russ russ let it slip during his talk at Lomdon Film and Comic Con that he'd be returning to London for an event in 2016:

What do you think? We have enquired with the usual suspects but everyone is being tight lipped. Have you heard anything? Have the … Continue Reading ››

Bluetooth Communicator – UK Stockist

When Startrek.com tweeted the news that an officially licenced Bluetooth Commuicator that connects to your phone, is about to hit the market we didn't need to read too much more to shout out "shut up and take my Latinum!" p7243_press3   But where in the UK can we get our hands on this bleeping beauty!? Set coordinates for Firebox.com to get your preorder in now. The bad news is it's not available until January 2016. The good news is that it means it's just in time for next years 50 year anniversary celebration of Star Trek (more on that to follow). We can't wait to hang up on a PPI claim call in this! Here's all the nitty-gritty details should you require more convincing:
  • Bluetooth handset that pairs with your mobile phone
  • Make and receive mobile telephone calls like a fully-fledged Starfleet commander
  • Painstakingly highly-detailed and accurate to the original
  • 3D scanned … Continue Reading ››

Captain Worf – On Screen!

We had heard about Michael Dorn's pitch for a Trek Spin-off based on Worf but it wasn't until we tuned in to Dorn's AMA on Reddit that we learnt more about this exciting venture. Iworf04t seems every third Tuesday there is another Trek-series rumour circulating but this one, of all of them, has got us really excited. Why? Well for many reasons but here's our top three. 1. It's based in the prime universe. Nuff said. 2, It's based after the events of Deep Space Nine but before Nemesis. Which puts it between 2375 - 2379. Hopefully it can shed some light on the rebuilding of the Federation, Cardassian, Klingon and Romulan empires following the Dominion War. It could also feature the return of Voyager and even explain why Worf appears on the Enterprise at the beginning of Nemesis! 3, It's Worf! Easily the most developed Character in the … Continue Reading ››

GE2394

It's polling day here in the UK and who said politics can't be fun? Last week we compared Trek characters to politician personalities and today we thought we'd ask; what would be the key campaigning topics if we were living in the 24th Century. Rather than #GE2015 it's #GE2394 Romulas RomulanCapital2154 Any Federation Presidential candidate worth their salt will have a strategy in place for dealing with the repercussions of Romulus's demise. Hopefully this will encourage the Vulcan/Romulan unification process further. We'd also be keen to hear their stance on Remans, who's world would have been destroyed by the same Super-nova. What efforts are taking place to repatriate them with their Roman brothers and Sisters and Vulcan cousins? Klingon and Cardassian Empires These empires are attempting to recover from being decimated by the Dominion War. The Federation should not assume they are weak and no threat. In times of desperation, … Continue Reading ››

Election Fever

Having worked in politics, this is the first year in my adult voting life that I won't be participating in a general election. (campaigning that is, I'm going to vote of course!) Star Trek very much influenced my decision to go in to politics so for this blog post I'd like to look at some of the Trek characters that fit in to some of the real life politician personality types I have encountered. This is just for fun. But I'd love to hear your thoughts and your suggestions. The Single Issue Guy chief-obrien copyChief O'Brien would be the type of politician who is always campaigning tirelessly for the same thing.  He has a singular focus, he went in to politics to sort out transporter technology regulation, the Cardassian encroachment of Federation territories or the rights of non-comm officers. The chamber could be talking about the furtherest thing from his pet subject, but he'll find a … Continue Reading ››
