SF Ball 3-5 Feb Southampton with Gates McFadden, Patti Yasutake and Larry Nemecek

It’s approaching February which means time for the fabulous SF Ball! Despite being right in our backyard – The Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton 3-5th February –  it’s always the hardest for us to attend!

But this year will be there on the Sunday (Carole and Sarah for sure. Sam, if she hasn’t left on her away mission!)

And with a Trektastic lineup it’s not one we want to miss.

We were sold when they announced Gates McFadden (Dr Beverley Crusher) but then they announced her number one Patti Yasutake (Nurse Alyssa Ogawa).

Then for added Trek-goodness our friend Larry Nemecek (Trek Continues, Trekland, Portal 47, Trek know-it-all) is also in attendance. He is a must see for for enthusiasts who enjoy hearing all about behind-the-scenes stories.

If you’re a fan of the new Star Trek films you’ll want to meet Dave Freeman who is the Concept artist for the movies.

Best bit? The SF ball is a Not-For-Profit organisation run by unpaid volunteers who donate money raised to the Teenage Charity Trust.

There are plenty of non-Trek guests too including Chris Barrie (Red Dwarf, The Brittas Empire), Terry Molloy (Davros in Doctor Who), Roger Ashton-Griffiths (Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Merlin), Ian Beattie (Alexander, The Tudors, Game of Thrones), Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones, Ripper Street, The Tudors).

If you’re lucky to attend all weekend there are no shortage of activities and entertainment planned:

Friday highlightsThe Con Dance Workshop to teach your two left feet the correct routines to enjoy all the convention dances; an epic pub quiz full of geeky questions both verbal and picturesque, A Gold Ticket Cocktail Party, including a hot buffet and a generous glass of bubbly welcoming gold ticket members offering up close and personal meetings with the guests, a goody bag full of film promotional merchandise and epic three foot chocolate fountains, plus a state of the art interactive game-show called A Question of Snort. Friday concludes with a fabulous party on the theme of The Worlds of Gerry Anderson and a prize for the best fancy dress/cosplay costume will be awarded.

Saturday highlights: a full, three-course black-tie/fancy dress dinner with live cabaret, a ‘money-can’t buy’ raffle, including incredibly unique prizes and a Game Of Thrones themed party with fancy dress/cosplay competitions, a celebrity cabaret and a late night disco with games and activities that all can enjoy.

Sunday’s highlights: a time travel themed late night disco and Karaoke evening and another opportunity to play one of SFB’s impressive interactive audio-visual games, Geekheads!
