What The TWOK!? Costumes are looking good!

It has been a lifelong dream to own one of these 'Monster Maroons' as they are affectionately known. But the dream is becoming a reality thanks to a wonderful local costume maker Naomi who has just sent us these images of our very own Wrath of Khan era Costumes, nearly completed.

MAC Cosmetics Trek Inspired Collection

Load credit card and prepare to fire glitter! We are LOVING this! MAC Cosmetics and Star Trek are going on a joint mission to create a Trek inspired collection. As MAC enthusiast myself I think this is a perfect collaboration. Why? MAC has a culture of acceptance. It's ethos is to celebrate diversity and it's own words "we are for All Ages, All Races, All Sexes." They have taken the 'all races' part literally this time as their collection boasts Orion, Betazoid, Borg and Human influences as this image/advert indicates.

Guessing they didn't want to pay Jeri, Marina and Nichelle for use of their image!
The irony is, the day before this was announced we were on the MAC Cosmetics site eyeing up their body paints for our Orion Slave Cosplay we are hoping to achieve at the Star Trek Las Vegas and Destination … Continue Reading ››

Anovos – affordable costumes

Anovos, the premium Star Trek and Battlestar costuming gurus, have just sent out this email announcing their new Standard line of costumes. Designed to be comfortable and accurate, most importantly they have used the word 'affordable'. This is great news for those of us who want the look but not the credit card debt!
As we have gone all routes, from having costumes made, buying from the cosplay eBay stores and the superb premium line at Anovos, we are really hoping this is the happy medium us fans have been waiting for.

What The Spock shall I wear?

For us, this week will be like watching Data watching a kettle boil. If we had an internal chronometer, we'd turn it off. If we had a Delorean, we'd be 88mph into Friday.

We talk a lot about costuming (or cosplaying for the trendy greeks). But if it's not your thing, don't dispair. There will be lots of people in 'civilians'.

However as we have mentioned in some of our previous post such as Trek Fashion Beams Down To London and Colour Blocking Federation Style there are many highstreet stores that are selling garments 'in the style' of Star Trek. So if you want to wear something 'inbetween', these items make good tributes to Trek Style. We're sure Garak would approve. For the Ladies:

Costuming on a Budget?

The economics of the future may be somewhat different but for those of living pre WW3, when going to a Star Trek event we have to watch our income.  We'll cover more details in regards to accommodation and travel for Destination Star Trek London in a later post but for those of you wanting to dabble in dressing up, as well as our previous posts, this may help. Choosing to dress up is a big step. But it can be pricey. I (Sam) made my first costume when I was about 14. I got a red T-Shirt and Black felt-tipped pen and coloured in the TNG costume. Then I covered my head with a pink swimming hat and went to school dressed as Captain Picard! I even gelled my brothers hair back, pasted his face in talcum powder and called him Data. It is a … Continue Reading ››

How to Survive a Star Trek Convention. Part Two

You spoke, we listened. You want to hear about Cosplaying so here is everything we know. British sci-fi fans are no longer the reserved stereotype. Once we put on our com badge and ridges we become as overt as a Dabo Girl on the Venus drug.
When it comes to picking what you want to wear. Decide now. Don’t leave it until two weeks before to decide that you want to dress up as some sort of Nausicaan/vedek hybrid. Dressing up needs planning, planning, planning. Check out our video blog about Cosplaying:

Colour Blocking, Federation Style

We just had to share this with you. Whilst spending our newly paid Latinum, look what we found at Karen Millen: KM2  www.karenmillen.com How fabulously Starfleet! We have noticed that the UK fashion scene is becoming more and more Trek influenced as we reported from London Fashion week where Jasper Conran plagiarised Spocks outfit from The Voyage Home.  We're heading to Karen Millen now with our Comm badges and pips! Not too sure about their shoes, but this pair oozes fabulous Captain with Starfleet colours and a tribute to Qo'noS:
Now the tough choice. Which one do we buy first? Which one do we leave until next months pay check? (not including the Louboutins, to afford them we'd have to commit to horrid acts that would make … Continue Reading ››
