LFCC Sunday 19th July 2015

It's that time of year again for one of our convention staples. Showmaster's London Film and Comic Con. We've been attending these for years. It feels like that familiar family holiday we take together. But this year stands out. This year it was BIG!! There was some serious guest star pulling power happening. We heard that it was going to be hot and that it was crazy busy (It always seems to fall on the hottest day of the year!).  We prepared ourselves mentally and physically for this away mission. Lots of water, tiny TNG skant dresses, water, we even bought new boots that were super comfy (sign that we're getting old). Armed with this and psyching ourselves up for standing around in a sweaty moshpit, we were actually relieved to find it wasn't as bad as we had imagined it to be.

London Film and Comic Con 17th -19th July

We're going back to one of our favourite events of the year London Film and Comic Con! And 'going back' is a theme this year with a Back To The Future reunion no less!    Taking place in the Olympia Hall  on  Friday 17th July, Saturday 18th and Sunday the 19th of July 2015 be sure to book your tickets fast as the ever popular show has even more wow factor this year to attract the crowds. The  guest that has sent shockwaves through geekdom was the big announcement that Michael J Fox will be joining Christopher Lloyd, Claudia Wells, Donald Fullilove, Jeffrey Weissman and Lea Thompson for a BTTF cast reunion. You need super tickets for MJF but it's so rare, it's got to be worth it. Showmasters have also 'obtained' (for want of a better word!) some more unique guests such as Sigorney Weaver and Neve Campbell! Amazing, how do they get … Continue Reading ››

First Contact Day – Get your tickets quick!

First Contact Day is all about knocking back tequila celebrating the dawn of the Federation, an era of peace and hope for Humanity. What better way to celebrate it than in the company of our fellow Trekkies. This year be sure to check out the return of the third First Contact Day being held 4th - 5th April in Leicester's National Space Centre with guests including Garrett Wang (Voyager's Harry Kim), Claudia Christian (Babylon 5) Trek Authors Una McCormack and James Swallow, Alan Flyng (Star Wars) and a Skype chat with our all time favourite Trek expert Larry Nemecek. 124cb90a3d0316091e5f8a7c739baa47 This is a fan organised event which supports Help For Heroes. We were honoured to have been asked to attend FCD and host some Trek talks but sadly due to work commitments we aren't able to make this year. We Spoke to the organiser of FCD, Will Ross who gave us … Continue Reading ››

SF Ball 21

On Saturday we packed up ready for the SF Ball in it's new home at the Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton. Carole had to work so I took Sarah, our Trekkie In Training, along. Because of new baby, we couldn't stay along as we wanted (like, all weekend!) so this review isn't as thorough as we'd like however we wanted to make an effort and see what we could of the Ball after hearing so much praise. We have been to all sorts of conventions, some are massive signing events, some are like a small gathering of friends, others are like drunken nights at Quarks. From what we saw of the SF Ball, it is a mixture of everything. The venue worked very well. If we're completely honest, the previous venue had put us off on previous years. We love hotel events, they foster a sense of community. It's like being on a school trip with … Continue Reading ››

SF Ball coming to Southampton

This year we are very excited to make our first trip to the famous SF Ball 6th - 8th Feb. We have heard so many exciting things about this event, from the cabaret, to the interaction with guests, not to mention those con dances! It's a travesty on our part that we haven't made until now. Ball21Flier Alas, with a little one and work commitments we are only able to attend for the Saturday but we can't wait to soak up that Trek Atmosphere. Plus, hailing from Portsmouth, it's now in our back yard, Southampton. The Shelbyville to our Springfield. We had the privilege to talk to SFB events organiser B who kindly took the time to talk to us. Her passion and enthusiasm for the event is simply infectious. We could tell immediately that this is an event created with love. Being Trekkies, we were keen to hear how this … Continue Reading ››

So, What’s Next for The Original TiT?

What can I say? The response I’ve had to these “guest blog” posts has been absolutely amazing – you guys are fantastic!! But I’ve actually really enjoyed doing them! In fact, it’s kind of taken over my life a little bit?! (I may need to take a couple of days off to spend some time with my boyfriend, think he’s feeling a little neglected!) It’s taken me right back to my time at University – cramming to finish those 5000 word essays before a deadline (it’s a good stress – honest!). Part of me doesn’t want it to end? But I can’t hog the Trekkie Girls limelight forever. So, what IS next for The Original TiT?!
Perhaps it’s time for me to take command of my own starship? Start my own blog…
SCARY!! What will I talk about? What if nobody comes to pay me a visit? Guess I’ll just … Continue Reading ››

My First Star Trek Convention: What Am I Taking Away From DST3?

Star Trek is a drug and I’m hooked. That is all.
JUST KIDDING!!! Like you could shut me up there?!
But seriously, as a complete convention newbie, as I said before, I had no idea what to expect from DST3. Trekkie Girls Sam and Carole, had always seemed to have a lot of fun, but I felt that perhaps you had to be a “hardcore Trekkie” to reap the full benefit from one of these things? Also, I guess I feared that my lack of Trek knowledge would make me stick out like a sore thumb?! Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong!
I think Bruce Greenwood summed it up perfectly. It was his first convention too, and at the opening ceremony, as he spoke to Jonathan Ross, he seemed honestly taken aback by how much the show meant to the fans and was surprised at how much it … Continue Reading ››
