SF Ball 3-5 Feb Southampton with Gates McFadden, Patti Yasutake and Larry Nemecek

It's approaching February which means time for the fabulous SF Ball! Despite being right in our backyard - The Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton 3-5th February -  it's always the hardest for us to attend! But this year will be there on the Sunday (Carole and Sarah for sure. Sam, if she hasn't left on her away mission!) sfball-banner-10 And with a Trektastic lineup it's not one we want to miss. We were sold when they announced Gates McFadden (Dr Beverley Crusher) but then they announced her number one Patti Yasutake (Nurse Alyssa Ogawa). Then for added Trek-goodness our friend Larry Nemecek (Trek Continues, Trekland, Portal 47, Trek know-it-all) is also in attendance. He is a must see for for enthusiasts who enjoy hearing all about behind-the-scenes stories. If you're a fan of the new Star Trek films you'll want to meet Dave Freeman who is the Concept artist for … Continue Reading ››

#DSTE Day 3

Late night early morning. That's how we roll at DST. We are still a bit green in places from yesterday's Orion look but we head straight to the Excelsior stage where we are hosting our second Cosplay panel with the wonderful Misty Chance (drag queen and Star Trek cosplayer) and Liam Dillon, Star Trek fan and Facebook costume group. Cosplay Panel In this panel we highlight the connection between cosplay (grown up talk for fancy dress) and Star Trek. What we discovered is that there is a close link between the two. Cosplay originated at Star Trek conventions (contrary to popular belief that it stemmed from manga/anime and Japanese culture). We asked each panellist and the audience why they choose to dress up as Star Trek characters and we found and wide array of answers. For Liam, it is a … Continue Reading ››

#DSTE Day 2 pt2 –  Party!

**We are live blogging, please excuse any lapses in spelling, grammar and accuracy** Last night was the second of the Destination Star Trek Europe parties. This one was themed 'Quarks bar and casino as was the venue for the official celebration of Star Trek's 50th anniversary. The party was held at the Hilton Metropole which was a superb venue and conveniently close to the NEC. You have the added advantage of being able to access the main bar. The Star Trek Rat Pack performed who were brilliant and hilarious. They had edited their routine for the British audience. For example at Star Trek Las Vegas they sang "you can't get a good drink at Rio" to "you can only get a good drink in England" Apparently Chase played before but we were in the queue at the bar (longer than Shatners autograph line!) but we hear she was incredible. After the performance Walter Koenig cut the specially commissioned birthday cake … Continue Reading ››

#DSTE Day 2

**We are live blogging, please excuse any lapses in spelling, grammar and accuracy**   Day two is off to an amazing start. The event has sold out! We started by greening ourselves up because today we are Orion Slave Girls! ... Technically we are Orion officers! The additional makeup and dressing requirements meant we missed some early panels (that's the reason, honest!). But nothing was going to keep us away from Wil Wheatons panel! Wil Wheaton's Talk Here's what happened...
  • This was the first time in 20 years that he had appeared at a UK convention!
  • He spoke with such passion and enthusiasm it was infectious.
  • Defined by the entertainment industry as "he used to be an actor"
  • He loves to write and found he preferred directing
  • In 2000 - started website / blogging and reinvented himself that way
  • He has proved you CAN have a second … Continue Reading ››

#DSTE – day one preview

**We are live blogging, please excuse any lapse in grammar, spelling or accuracy** The doors are open! And like Scotty spying on the USS Vengence, we snuck behind the bridge crew to take a look at things at Destination Star Trek Birmingham before it opened to the public.... Here is our live periscope....   We have had an incredible morning so far having appeared on BBC Breakfast, Good Morning Britain, radio stations all with the marvellous William Shatner. He was hilarious and so hard working.

#DSTE – Press conference

**We are live blogging, please excuse any lapses in our grammar, spelling or accuracy.** We've said it before and we'll say it again. Press conferences at Star Trek conventions are weird! Their primary function is to give major press outlets access to Star Trek's finest so they write about the event and get extra people through the doors. generationshd0102 They are similar to panels but as the questions aren't from hard core fans it has a totally different feel from the fan orientated questions. Still, we feel very lucky to attend these. Here's what happened... William Shatner is first up talking about social media - Kirk wouldn't use it. How he feels young, but not as young as he used too. About 50 years of Star Trek. There is a magic about Star Trek. He then even said that he saw an interview this morning with "these girls" (pointing to us in the first … Continue Reading ››

One week until #DSTE – Schedule available

One week until our favourite every-year-or-two event; Destination Star Trek. The schedule has been released and so begins the mission briefing! web-logo-v6 As you might see we have a couple of panels ourselves. Which we have began frantically preparing for! Please remember the details can change at anytime! Cosplay panel - We have been asked to host a panel on cosplaying and we are delighted to do! We don't claim to be expert cosplayers ourselves but we do dress up at conventions and are fascinated by the phenomenon. We have invited some of our friends as panelists. Misty Chance, the Trekkie Drag queen and Cosplay legend. If you have been to any of the DST's or the recent Star Trek Las Vegas convention you would have seen her sporting one of her many pro costumes including the Intendant, Seven of Nine, T'Pol, Queen Aracnia and Lwaxana Troi. Looking at her Continue Reading ››

Shore leave: Star Trek Las Vegas

We can hardly believe this is happening, Carole is already in the States and I fly this Wednesday as we prepare for the most epic of away missions/shoreleave of them all. Creation Entertainment's Star Trek Las Vegas 50th Anniversary Convention! stlv16-mainHeader I went to my first STLV in 2008 and that was a turning point for me as a Star Trek fan. This TV program that I love, suddenly felt so much bigger. It wasn't just a TV show anymore, it was a community. I returned with Carole and other friends in 2010 when I coincided my wedding so I could go to STLV for my hen (bachelorette) party. I met so many amazing people during those events and even though it was for a brief period of time, through the power of social media I never feel too far from that community. It also seems that half of the … Continue Reading ››

Star Trek Beyond Event – Review

Star Trek is cool again! That was the vibe from last nights special fan event held at Paramount Pictures. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mM7H0ziPFfA Considering very little detail about the event was released prior, it was a spectacular affair with Paramount pulling out all the stops for an epic celebration that went 'beyond' showing us a trailer for the new movie. The event also encompassed a celebration of 50 years of Star Trek with Hollywoods biggest names like Rihanna and Slash paying tribute to the franchise and declaring their Trekkie status. Screen Shot 2016-05-21 at 10.48.56 When we arrived at Stage 31 we were led through an Enterprise corridor to reveal the bridge style theatre where the Q&A's would take place. Screen Shot 2016-05-21 at 17.17.13 The Q&A was moderated by Adam Savage from Myth Busters (and huge Trekkie) who sadly didn't blow anything up. JJ. Abrams and Justin … Continue Reading ››
