2013 Qapla’ !

Happy new year to all our followers. We wanted to say Thank you to each of you that reads our blog and watches our videos.
We find that years are a bit like Star Trek Movies. The even numbered ones always work out better. But we love the odd numbered ones too and are grateful to have them. We have had the most incredible year and it's going to be hard to top but we have a Betazoid sense that 2013 is going to be better.
Our personal highlights have been:
Reporting from our first convention and making the 'How to Survive a Star Trek Convention' guides.
  • Our first interviews with Star Trek actors, Chase Masterson and Jeri Ryan.
  • Destination Star Trek London, meeting many of our followers, talking to William Shatner and partying the night away with our friends from Trek Mate.
  • Attending the IMAX preview of Star Trek … Continue Reading ››

Inside Out – The future of transport

If you happened to be watching Inside Out on BBC One on Monday you might have spotted us. If you were at DSTL, you might even spot yourself!
The BBC were filming an episode of Inside Out, investigating whether Britain has fallen out of love with the car. If we had our own Starships, we're sure we would have ditched the cars long ago!
When we did our cheeky bridge segment at DSTL we had got in the way of the BBC, who were very polite about it and asked if we'd be in their programme. You can view the clip through iPlayer using this link.
Yes that is the back of Sam's head interviewing William Shatner 😉
With these 8 seconds of fame we promise not to go all Diva. Now someone fetch … Continue Reading ››

Need therapy?

In our last post we talked about a series of Trek related coincidences at Tesco. Well stranger things have happened. And here it is!

I (Sam) am currently studying to become a counsellor (yes, I want an office and chocolate supply like Troi). So one day I'm reading a text book and I notice these set of names.

I chuckle to myself. Only a trekkie would put that together. And read on.

A couple of pages later. I stumble upon another fictional client (right). Kess.
Not spelt right, but hey. I'm starting to wonder if I am going bonkers. Do I really see Star Trek everywhere!?
I flick through the pages to read the name of each fictional client. … Continue Reading ››

Looking for Star Trek in all the mundane places

We're starting to feel like that creepy boy from The Sixth Sense. We see Star Trek everywhere. Or is this too much of a coincidence for one supermarket?
Firstly, a confession to all of you who believe we always replicate our food or handmake our own hasperat. Sadly, it's not true we have to resort to these Ferengi ran supermarkets occasionally.

But look who was wondering around the corridors of Tesco yesterday.

Spot the Voyager costume?? It's not a great photo because I felt weird taking a picture of a stranger in Tesco. It was some sort of a mechanics costume but obviously designed to imitate Star Trek (Once you have eliminated every other possibility, what ever remains must be true). It was accurate right down to the blue undershirt.  I … Continue Reading ››

TNG on Syfy in HD

Forget bonfire night and cancel the community fireworks display because tonight at 7pm Syfy channel is boldly going over season one of Next Gen in HD!
We got the Taste of Blu ray disk back in January and it tasted good! But neglectful friends and relatives ignored our requests for season one in Blu ray for our birthdays. Therefor we are mighty glad it is now on TV. In someways, it is better. If we had the box set, we would have watched them all in a couple of sittings. Probably whilst doing something mundane like ironing. Having TNG as a weekly treat will allow us to look forward and savor it.

What is so great, is how TNG is back in … Continue Reading ››

Sulu Trumps Obama

So Donald Trump is going to give an announcement tomorrow that's going to blow a hole in Obama's re-election campaign. Anyone else reminded of that time Commander Tomolok threated to beat up Captain Picard after school tomorrow to display the Enterprise's broken hull in the Capital city of Romulas?
The Trekkie Girls have a bit of political experience and understand that one way Obama could diffuse the situation is to take the sting out of the story, by announcing it (whatever it is) first. We suggest this option because we know he doesn't have a couple of cloaked Klingon Bird of Preys hiding behind the Whitehouse.
To help we have hired an expert team of Betazoids, Vulcans and Ocampa to read the President and Trumps mind so we can give you the scoop first.
As you know, one of the key questions in the Presidential debates has gone unanswered;

TNG and Me

Sci-fi blogs, websites and magazines are a buzz talking about Star Trek The Next Generations 25th Anniversary. As many of our readers know, we grew up on TNG and would like to share our journey with the Next Generation.
By Sam.
I don't remember the first time I watched TNG just the challenge of tricking my parents into letting me. Because I don't remember how old I was when this happened I googled the UK air date and am surprised to find it was 1990.  Once I was tucked in bed I would stay awake and listen really hard to the TV. As soon as I heard the theme music I would jump out of bed, run downstairs and announce my bellyache, bad dream, boogie man or some other made up ailment that meant I had to watch TV and be tended … Continue Reading ››
