Another eventful week with anniversary of First Contact and a month away from Star Trek Into Darkness gracing our cinema screens and prime universe!
Yes it is the REAL marina sirtis. Decided to join the 21st century! — Marina Sirtis (@Marina_Sirtis) April 2, 2013
We have some exciting news to share with you all in the next few weeks! Keep checking back for the latest! RT #DST#LLAP — Star Trek London (@StarTrek_London) April 3, 2013
....To watch first contact! Whilst tomorrow is first contact. It's still good to get that cheap thrill from hearing Data say todays date. It's the simple things! This year is a special one though as it's the 50 year pre-anniversary of first contact.
We'll be celebrating the event with fans across the country this weekend at the National Space Centre, Leicester. Tomorrow evening we'll upload our video on ways to celebrate this special event. Then stay tuned this Saturday for our live tweeting from Dawn of The Federation. Where we will no doubt make endless innuendoes over the name Dawn.
This week most Trek tweeters went crazy over April Fools day. Luckily no harm was done, as we all remember what happened to little Willie Potts. But we kinda hope Shatner does get a part in the new Star Wars film. Maybe making out with Carrie Fisher? (We hear you shouting "The line must be drawn here!")
Here are some of our favourite tweets of the week:
Happy Birthday to Marina Sirtis! The unsung hero who saved the day in so many episodes of TNG 🙂 We Vulcan salute you. — Trekkie Girls (@TrekkieGirls) March 29, 2013
We love twittering our thoughts but find they seem to disappear of the edge of the galactic barrier once sent, so we thought we'd include a weekly blog post to our favourite Tweets. Hope you relish them as much as we.
Watching TNG Second Chances. They should have named this one Ménage a Troi instead. You know Will, Tom and Deanna are thinking it.— Trekkie Girls (@TrekkieGirls) March 23, 2013
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rd2VBfLtqCA] You have to check out this video of last nights London Into Darkness light show for WWF's Earth Hour. They should do this every night!
Starfleet Insignia beams over London as it goes Into Darkness for Earth Hour.
When we started our London4IntoDarkness campaign (to bring the worldwide premiere of STID to London) we bothered loads of important people with our idea. The feedback we got from the likes of Paramount was 'probably not the worldwide premiere, but Brits will not be disappointed with what we have planned for London'. And like Darmok with his arms wide open, we certainly have not been.
First we had the announcement that London will receive the movie earlier than the US (9th May in case you have been in Rure Penthe for the last fortnight) and then last night (23rd March) London literally went Into Darkness, in aid of WWF's Earth Hour, when Paramount released some clever quadrocopters powered by green energy, in the formation of the … Continue Reading ››
We were saddened today to learn that James, a pub landlord and life long Star Trek fan had three handmade Star Trek costumes stolen from his pub, the Coach House Keal Cotes, Lincolnshire.
However, tonight whilst on the phone discussing the incident with James and his wife April, the costumes were returned albeit without the unique badges. The 'Passport badge' or 'UFP medal' (we have seen it referred to as both) can be seen in The Voyage Home on the federation council members. We hadn't even noticed them (the blasphemy!) so we believe they are very rare.
We were relieved to learn the costumes were returned but please could we appeal to the humanity and goodness within that person again, to return the badges too.
It took courage to return the costumes which had sentimental value to the owner, we are sure you can find that courage again to return the medals that mean so much … Continue Reading ››
Last week I (Sam) was delighted to be invited onto the Trek Mate podcast with host Wayne and special Guest Chris Cooper, editor of Star Trek Magazine. We always have a blast when chatting on Podcasts and especially Trek Mate. As we are video bloggers we try to keep our entries short and sweet - a task that can be almost impossible. The great thing about appearing on a podcast is being able to geek out and chat away, jumping from subject to subject.
I particularly enjoyed their music feature (by Matt Warwick) where the listener has to guess what episode the music score is from. It's really hard but good fun because I could convince myself that it belonged in any episode that popped into my head!
How we regret not watching the Oscars this morning! Our Twitter and Facebook feed is full of clever Oscar/Kirk comments but the real hero of the night has to be Seth Macfarlane. He is an inspiration to all Trekkies demonstrating that no matter what you do, make sure you include some Trek goodness. Here is Seth's opening staring William Shatner as Captain Kirk.
We think we hear a sneaky Qapla' after one of Seth's number. What do you think?...Seth?...phone us? Marry us both like Mormons Bolians.
William Shatner looked fab in his TWOK maroons which we suspect might be Anovos? He may have been sat in Kirks seat but he was definitely playing the strait-faced, in-your-face Shatner persona we love. Maybe with a bit of family guys Brian mixed in!?
Also at the Oscars were the other Captain Kirk, the deliciously handsome Chris Pine looking … Continue Reading ››
